The Origen Consortium

Where truthseekers and truthhandlers leave both the fluff and the static behind

This is a network and discussion forum for those of us who can handle more than most of truth, paradox, belief and all their intersections.

This is a real social network named after a fictional semi-secret organization I made up for my stories. The Origen Consortium is a conglomerate entity dedicated both to searching out the truth and spreading it, while at the same time keeping it out of the hands of those who aren't capable of handling it, understanding it, or using it responsibly or sanely...a mission that requires extraordinary and superhuman talents to be involved, as well as a great deal of confidentiality.

The Alexandrian theologian Origen, after whom the Consortium is named, held that there were multiple levels of interpretation and understanding possible in religious scriptures and teachings, but that most people were only capable of grasping the literal or the moralistic meanings -- the lowest two levels -- and that they both couldn't and shouldn't be pressured to understand more than they were able. Which creates a dilemma, in practice, for all those who try to share their insights and knowledge with others but can't share everything they know as they themselves know it, or even close to that.

So this is a place where we don't have to worry so much about that gap of communication, seeing as it's not a general otherkin, pagan/magical, spiritual or even sociopolitical network. Anyone who's invited here is someone who can understand and discuss things on the higher levels, keep a clear head, and not be carried away with their own ideology, anti-ideology or grandiose/flaky claims. Which is a complex way of saying, "We can actually talk about things that matter without hecklers and fluffbunnies butting in."

So, here's for some unrepressed consorting and good company.

Some thoughts on starting another year in this area of general wyrdness...

As I think about it, which I don't often deliberately take the time to do, there's a lot that has changed over the past few years. I've gained some trustworthy friends with whom I can share the deepdark and complicated truth, and lost quite a few former friends and acquaintances one way or another -- generally through differences of opinion or toleration which made it clear that sustained or deep friendship was out of the question. And I've let civil connections stand with a few people whom I te… Continue

New Year's Felicitations to Everyone....

Pass this message on/around as you like, to anyone who could use a better year to come -- the more the merrier and the stronger too.

One of the finest seasonal incantations ever written, from the pen of Alfred, Lord Tennyson:

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die

I find this amusing, but I'm bound to be enigmatic about it...cue some Alphaville, please.

So who's that tromping around some 75 miles SSE of my ancestral domain -- and singing, nonetheless? Sure, the castle ain't there anymore, but something of the land must remember me, I'd think, between the capital and the feudal seat...though it's a rather crowded proposition to actually go there and try to find the echoes. There's not very much that's the same there anymore, though someday I might visit the Koraku'en gardens just to see what lingers there. My third son and I are currently lucky:… Continue

Reflecting on modesty and reserve and justified paranoia

Yeah, this may seem a bit odd, coming from someone who's trying to gather and organize people and pull things together to make for greater sense and illumination in the world....but I realize sometimes, especially when out and about in the Otherkin areas online, that I'm very reserved and don't tend to make much of myself, even in areas where I'm well-qualified, while others inflate their credentials and experiences at every chance. I'll say that I'm angelic and well into the ancient category, m… Continue

I'm baaaaack.... (and getting more so)

Okay, this has been one hell of a bothersome couple of weeks, and I'm personally still on a financial shoestring, but due to the cascading failure of all our home Internetworking equipment two days ago I am now operating on a new modem/router that's actually designed for high-speed DSL, instead of the old 2Wire modem that I got back in 2004 with the original DSL installation.

Which is just as well, considering that I'd lost the old SBC-Yahell DSL installation disk and couldn't even get i… Continue
